The Soft Voice

Hey there, I’m Shae, and welcome to Soft Voice, Hard Truth. I’m a Gen X woman with a lifetime of stories, a few hard-earned lessons, and a whole lot left to say. This is a place where we pull up a chair and have real, honest conversations about life, love, relationships, healing, and rediscovering ourselves in the second half of life. We’ll laugh, we might cry, and occasionally, we’re going to say the things everybody else is thinking but nobody wants to say out loud! Because getting older doesn’t mean our stories are over. Sometimes, it means we’re finally finding the courage to tell them. So grab your coffee, pull up a chair, and join me. We’ve got some things to talk about. And remember, you can have a soft voice and still speak a hard truth.

Episode 7: When Independence Is a Trauma Response
Gen X women were raised to be strong, self-sufficient, and never ask for help. But what happens when independence becomes a survival mechanism? Today we’re talking about hyper-independence, the exhaustion of always being the strong one, and why learning to accept help might be one of the hardest things we ever do.
Because sometimes “I’ve got this” really means “I’ve never had another choice.”
Follow Soft Voice, Hard Truth for more honest conversations about life, healing, and finding our voices.
